Turpin's Trail

The Turpin's Trail head is located behind the Lane House Museum, and winds up Lighthouse hill. The trail is 9 km long and takes approximately 2 hours to complete. Varied terrain, includes wooden bridges, stone paths, strairways, sand and grass, the level of difficulty is moderate to somewhat difficult in areas. The trail follows a rugged coast line, winds through wooded areas and along Sandy Cove Beach, providing excellent scenery and a variety of views.

Other trails include Oliver's Cove, although not as clearly marked as the Turpin's Trail, can be easily followed with a moderate degree of challenge. This Trail begins at Oliver's Cove head (Follow the sign at Duff's Lane) and winds around the shoreline to end up on Greene's Point. Oliver's Cove is the place to view traditionally fenced gardens where people still grow their root crop vegetables and cut grass for their animals. As the trail winds through the area known as Pumbley Cove the hiker may be delighted to see some whales.

Finally there is a footpath which leads to Cape Cove, an abandoned community that was resettled during the Smallwood era. This trail is less obviously marked, however many locals know the path well and anyone interested in hiking the trail would be sure to find directions by asking any of the local people that they come into contact with.
