You are here: Visiting Tilting - Attractions - Other Attractions - Sandy Cove Beach
Located at the entrance of Tilting, there is a tranquil place known as Sandy Cove. Once a community apart from Tilting, Sandy Cove has its own gardens that are used for growing vegetables and grazing farm animals. Many of these gardens are located on the Farm Road (first turn-off to the left). These gardens are used mainly for growing root crops. Lining the edge of the road there are picket fences defining the gardens used for grazing. These gardens are primarily inhabited by sheep, but are occasionally occupied by cows and the rare, but beautiful Newfoundland Pony. Sandy Cove is an important part of Turpin' s Trail. It is home to Bunker Hill, and Turpin's Rock. It is also the home of the Reardon House, which is the last remaining old-fashion house in this cove. It is now being restored, and will soon be open to the public. Another attractive site to be seen in Sandy Cove is the alluring sandy beach. Sandy Cove beach is one of the most magnificent natural sand beaches in Newfoundland. Home of an annual festival the last weekend of each July, this beach is also an excellent camping area. This area, resided by only a small percentage of Tilting's population, is a wonderfully scenic part of the community.
