The Reardon House Artists Retreat

Operation:

  • Artists (visual artists, photographers, sculptors, performers, writers, composers and craft artists) apply by contacting TRACS (Tilting Recreation and Cultural Society) at:

Tilting Recreation and Cultural Society

E-Mail:

  • Artists will live in the Reardon House (built 1860). The Reardon House was restored completely and is completely furnished with period furniture, of which some are replicas. In addition there are a new washer, dryer, fridge and stove, and the house is heated with an EPA approved oil stove.  Heat and light are included.

  • The visiting artist is responsible for all his/her costs (food, transportation etc.). A stipend will be available in the future.

  • Studio facilities are available. A restored boat house is an excellent venue for a studio.

Responsibilities of the Visiting Artist:

  • The Visiting Artist position has been established in order to provide artists an opportunity to produce work that reflects or responds to the natural environment and to the cultural heritage of Tilting and the communities of Fogo Island.

  • Visiting artists are expected to interact with the community.

  • The visiting artist will conduct a public lecture during their stay. The public lecture provides the resident artist with an opportunity to present his/her work to the community.

  • The visiting artist will conduct a child’s workshop.

  • The visiting artist will leave two samples of their work. One will be displayed in the community and the other auctioned to support the Artist Retreat program.

  • The visiting artist will have the opportunity to place his/her work at the local craft shop for sale.

Application:

  • Samples of recent work (digital photos). Artists whose work is better represented by video or other media may include these items.

  • A full resume.

  • References to published articles, reviews, exhibition announcements, and/or catalogues.

  • A one page proposal that communicates the development of a theme that relates to his/her own work and background.
