Workshop: Practical operation of
Community Radio,
St. Patrick’s Hall.
This
workshop includes topics and hands-on experience of both the
technical and programming aspects of operating a community radio
station that will prepare community members for the 2012 Fogo
Island Community Radio Project. The workshop will be directed at
students and adults. For pre-registration e-mail dmurphy234@gmail.com.
There is no fee for this workshop and any one Fogo Island
interested in an Island wide community radio project are
welcome.

Introduction to Spinning with Helen Dyer in St. Patrick’s Hall.
Learn about spinning and how to use a drop spindle.
For thousands of years, long before the invention of the
spinning wheel, people as young as five years of age had to
learn to spin yarn for clothing, carpets, bags and fishing nets.
While spindles vary in design, the basic technique is the same
the world over. This workshop aims to teach use of the suspended
spindle for the creation of usable yarn from local fleece, as
well as demonstrating the working of the one of the spinning
wheels used in Tilting until the early 20th century.
This workshop is
free with a donation. All are welcome to come to the workshop
and try their hands at spindling without any obligation to
purchase the materials. The kit, comprising a spindle and a
supply of locally produced wool, costs $10.
2. Kite making
with Fergus Foley in his store.
Learn how to
make and fly a traditional kite with a catalogue tail.
3.
Introduction to digital photography
with Jim Costello in the Firehall.
This
hands-on practical workshop will focus on basic digital
photography techniques. delivered in the context of
photographing the beautiful community of Tilting.
4.Tilting
through the eyes of an artist with Vida Simon in the
Jennifer Keefe Studio.

presentation will focus on rug hooking and the work of the Fogo
Island Craft Guild.

a walking tour with Michael Boyle of
Boyletours in St. Patrick’s Hall.
The workshop will
look the walking tour in terms of how to organized and
conduct one. This workshop will be of particular interest to
individuals who are planning community walking tours on Fogo and
Change Islands. |
